a leaf in the frozen october air

orange with halloween

and sparkled with dew drops

that masquerade themselves as water

tears of nighttime fairies

never glimpsed by human eyes

and the fog that forms at eye level

blurs the sensation of your arm-crossed frozen selfish woes

when you realize how long you've been standing

staring at this rugged fallen dead silent leaf

and your anger again begins to warm you

you allow your legs to carry you forward

feet subconcsiously careful to avoid the leaf.
