Ice Shield

Empty
Cold
Frozen even in the wasting heat
Ice creaking and groaning
Wanting so much to snap
Shield made of shards
Water leaking out from beneath the cold cover
Immaterial
When it melts
Nothing there
But a floating cold chill
Drifting up
Out of anyone's grasp
